"A Fish Called Wanda" - 12/16-22/24

Monday, December 16th

Mom and I had been talking and we remembered this movie as being very funny, which it most definitely is! John Cleese, Michael Palin, Kevin Klein, and Jaime Lee Curtis are all in top form. Do yourself a favor and rewatch this!

They also brought a string of Christmas tree lights I had years ago. They tested them to see if they still worked, but they were very intermittent. I could tell that only half of them would be lit at one time, so when the head nurse showed up and said we could not put up lights because they were a fire hazard, I told Mom to throw the lights out. She suggested donating them to Goodwill but it's not right to give Goodwill crap and M said they do not accept incandescent lights anyway. So in the trash they go!

Tuesday, December 17th

I started not feeling well again Monday night and it continued throughout the evening so I barely slept. All day I felt like I was on the verge of getting a fever and just overall not well. When R came to give me a massage we spoke and she said she never gives a massage to someone who has a fever because you end up moving the sickness throughout their body. She said she could come back Thursday afternoon and she would text me to make sure I was feeling better. Now that I think about it, she gave me a massage last Tuesday and I began to feel sick Tuesday evening so that adds up.

Wednesday, December 18th

I watched a TV show at about 8 p.m. last night to get me sleepy and I woke up at 10:30 a few episodes later. I turned everything off, started a podcast, and hoped I would still be able to fall asleep OK. I slept like a rock and woke up feeling hunky-dory! Oh, my, that's nice! Mom and I had spoken last night and we decided to cancel the Zoom appointment with the lady from Germany this morning. Good call, as Mom was still not feeling well.

Showers are now something to be endured, not enjoyed. I definitely like it afterwards, feeling clean and fresh, but during is not fun. I always briefly consider canceling my shower, but the very short-term relief would be quickly erased by the grubby, dirty feeling I would have to put up with until the next shower.

Thursday, December 19th

My therapist really wants Freddie to keep being used to traveling in a car and seeing other people. She can see him settling in with her other cats and not wanting to leave that. She intends to bring Freddie every week and to also bring him to her office so he can spend time there. Sounds like a great idea to me. We wasted about 20 to 25 minutes on him before he went back in the carrier and took a nap. When he was out he wanted to explore all over the room, which was completely understandable.

I wanted to get irritated and then I realized I didn't have anything pressing that I wanted to talk about. I guess it was just the principle of the thing. You should be doing therapy on me for an hour, not dealing with the cat.

Friday, December 20th

There was a new nurse who had been trained but this was the first time he was doing things all by himself. He had to give me a suppository, which he had daintily slipped into me. I knew it usually got shoved in farther, but I didn't know if it would make a difference, so I didn't say anything. Mistake! Nothing came out, which is very unusual for me.

Unfortunately, I now had to convince the daytime nurse that I needed a second suppository. I didn't want to wait until tomorrow to get another suppository. He said let's wait and see if anything happens. If my regular CNA had been on duty, she would have told him there would already be a lot to clean up by now. He did finally get me one and I did slowly have a movement, but it was not what I normally produced. But it was something, and I was happy about that.

I apologize that my blog sometimes includes TMI about BMs. This was the big news for today, as everything took up the entire morning. I will be doing a piece specifically about BMs but it will be in Tips and Tricks/Ellen Explains so you won't have to read it unless you really want to.

Saturday, December 22nd

My sister and my mom traded days coming to see me. My mom showed up at lunch with a meal from Diamondhead Grill, which was wonderful! And there was enough for a second, or maybe even a third meal. Mom and I decided that I should work my way through every main dish they have. Yum! And the whole meal was only 13 bucks! What a deal! Apparently, this is where Tom Selleck would get his food when he was shooting Magnum PI. That tells you how long this place has been around.

Mom and I played Connections in the NYT Games app, which we both enjoy. We make a good team and it's a fun activity to do together. I started playing every Wordle since the game started in June 2021. Because the archived games do not count in my current stats, I can play without that worry. I have been kicking butt when I play today's Wordle. I somehow pick the best word to finish in three or even two turns! Sweet!

Sunday, December 22nd

My sister showed up a few minutes late for what we thought was the Sunday morning appointment with the lady in Germany. She did not respond so my sister went to a brunch with friends. Turns out it was her birthday and she was in another part of the country having fun with family. I think mom assumed without confirming the date. No problem, we will meet next week.

My sister went to Whole Foods on her way back and got some more snacks and sushi for dinner for me. She made a bunch more snack bags for me and got a few other chores done. We briefly talked about the supplements, but she wants to finish the budget before she approves that. It is a bit frustrating as I know the pills will improve my health and the longer we wait, the more I have to take to get up to speed. Argh!

A good friend of mine from UCLA found my website and wrote me a nice note! How great! I hope that keeps happening! My sister and I posed for a cute shot to use for this week’s blog. She's been doing a lot of yoga recently, so she's showing off her guns!

Have a great week and a Merry Christmas or whatever holiday you celebrate! 🎄
