Connections - 12/30/24-1/5/25

Monday, December 30th

Mom returned home from Maui last night, but M thought she wouldn't get back until later so he made other plans for today. I wanted to watch ”A Christmas Story” and it was on Max, but signing in proved more than I could do today. After the second attempt, we gave up and played Connections on the New York Times Games app. If I don't open Max for a long time, I have to sign in again. Or if my sister doesn't open it for a while, it will kick out people who are mooching a subscription off her. The nerve! Then she opens the program up and refreshes everything and back it comes!

I also ordered a shirt from my high school. Since I am in bed most of the time, it's nice to have fun T-shirts to wear. I had a T-shirt from my high school that I liked, but somehow it only lasted 25 years. I think it was the industrial washing machines that did it in. Anyway, I looked on Amazon and found T-shirts of: Bugs Bunny, Ren & Stimpy and Alfred E Newman. That's fun!

Tuesday, December 31st

I got up in my chair for my massage and because I know it's good to get up at least once a week. My sister stopped by and she definitely liked that I was up. She went to the west side for New Year's at some good friends’ mom's condo. This is on the side where all the locals live and everyone gets aerial fireworks so the entire coast on that side is a flurry of illegal explosions. Luckily, there were no major mishaps. Another community in Honolulu was not so lucky and five people were killed and about 30 people were injured. Horrible. Fireworks are no joke!

Wednesday, January 1st

I thought of a perfect essay that would be very easy and quick to write. It's almost an extended blog entry, but it is a good time capsule for how I am doing and gives people a good picture of life here. I know what the next essay will be but I need more time to write it. Other than that, I didn't do much today.

Thursday, January 2nd

My therapist stopped by with Freddie. He really enjoys the fleece blanket I have and settles down in it when he comes out of his carrier. It's very nice to have a kitty lying next to me, even if it's just an hour once a week.

Friday, January 3rd

Mom stopped by today and mentioned that she will come tomorrow and my sister will come Sunday for the appointment on Zoom in the morning. That's fine. For Mom, going to Whole Foods is out of the way, so she likes getting me lunch at Diamond Head Grill. That's fine with me, as they have good food that is not expensive. My goal is to work my way through the entire menu. Yum! I'm going to try the garlic shrimp on Saturday. That's what I'm looking forward to!

Saturday, January 4th

I told my CNA in the morning that my mom would be bringing food so I didn't need lunch from the hospital. It's a waste for them to make my whole tray when I know I'm not going to eat it. You have to tell people at least four hours ahead of the meal or there isn't time to cancel it.

I need to keep things flexible, so I can't tell them ahead of time which meals I could skip. And sometimes I like to eat part of the meal in addition to the food that is brought. Too bad there isn't a homeless person just outside the hospital that my sister or my mom could give my food to. Oh well, just one more meal in the gigantic pile of food that goes to waste in the US every day.

Sunday, January 5th

I always look forward to the day my sister comes. To make the best use of our time, I write tasks on my Reminders list so I remember what we need to do. I was hoping we would have a nice long span of time together, but she showed up ready to get things done and leave by 1:30. Poop! We got things done, but it was not leisurely. Oh well, maybe next weekend.

I spent the rest of the day watching movies, completely forgetting that I needed to write this blog! Whoops! I had written Monday ahead of time, but that was it. I realized after dinner and thought, I'll do it tomorrow. Way to put it off! There's that "can do" Spirit! Not tonight. Sigh. Have a great week!
