Thank you, GOP, for all you are not doing in this administration. It is a real lesson to watch who you have put in charge of the government and how they work. There's so much to learn and I have been taking notes.
- Accountability and transparency are quaint ideas to be avoided at all costs. Perception is reality so all you need to do is confidently say you are doing all the right things. If you repeat a false statement enough times, it becomes accepted as true.
- A meritocracy need not include any actual merit. You have shown us that experts should be left to the academics who value "facts.". Real citizens have too much to do managing their own lives to worry about whether or not the government is working.
- Spontaneity is crucial. It is better to speak before you think and leave it to others to check to see if anything you said is actually true. Nuance is for suckers who value specificity and you are concentrating on broad strokes.
- DEI is a farce and does nothing but keep the pure heroes of our society under the thumb of minorities. 60 or 70 years of affirmative action should be enough to erase roughly 1500 years of oppression, right? We live in a post-racial society now and we need not focus on such matters as long as you're white.
- Thank you for making us appreciate the little things, like Medicaid. We have stupidly taken this program for granted merely because it provides essential services for nearly 25% of the population. It's about time the poor, elderly, and disabled got off their asses and took care of themselves.
- It is much easier to destroy something outright and begin fresh than it is to tweak something that is mostly working but not the way you want it to. Before you start, make sure you are insulated from any negative consequences. Wealth is the most durable insulation. Power doesn't hurt either. And both are bulletproof. Especially in situations with real bullets.
- Feigning ignorance is a great way to escape responsibility. It doesn't matter how many times you may have shown yourself to be unreliable; saying ‘I'm not sure' or ‘I'll have to check’ kicks the can down the road and absolves you of any ownership of the problem.
- Numbers are handy. 21.7 billion for foreign aid sounds like a lot as long as you are not comparing it to the total budget of 6.8 trillion. All of a sudden, that 0.3% of the budget sounds gigantic. You can easily get rid of entire agencies without making a significant dent in spending.
- Remember, corporations are the most important people in the country. Government exists to protect and subsidize their profits. Federal workers, on the other hand, exist as punching bags to abuse, demean, and demoralize. Have at it!
There's new, exciting lessons that come every day. It's a wonder anyone can keep up, but that's the point, isn't it? I just remembered I forgot to list the most obvious point you have been making – abdicate your constitutionally mandated role as the power of the purse. It will be fun to see if it was worth worrying about getting primaried when we turn into a full dictatorship and there are no more elections.
