Rejoice! My website is complete! You can visit it at www.positively-disabled.com. The dash is important as there is another site by a disabled veteran with the same address(no dash). It will be clear when you get to my site as there are lots of photos of me. I was going to create it on WordPress, but it's just too difficult to deal with. I finally connected with someone who is good with websites and he pounded it out in a month. It could have been done in half the time, but I work at a very leisurely pace. My partner in crime is Brett Botbyl and you can email him at brettbotbyl@gmail.com in case you want to avail yourself of his services.
I can't wait to write about my life as I think people would like a peek into a 24-hour care facility. About 10 to 15% of the residents here can think straight, but I am about 10 to 20 years younger than the median age. And I look 10 years younger then I am. This is to say that I don't have peer group here. My mom and sister encourage me to get up in my wheelchair as much as possible. This can be difficult and once I am in the chair, there is nowhere to go. The same rules that keep the residents safe, trap me. I need someone else with me anywhere I go.
Whine, whine, whine. Just because I have no autonomy, privacy or Humphrey. I knew it would be like this and that's why I worked so hard to keep living on my own as long as possible. I had a great run, but that's over. Right now I mostly stay in bed and ignore reality. It is difficult to maintain my positive attitude but I know I want to because that is how I can create a different reality. One where I have the caregivers I need and I also have Humphrey.
Now I will add this entry to my site and share it with Facebook. Fingers crossed!
