A Shower and a Toe

Wednesday, 2/21

Very little hot water for my shower. I thought lukewarm water was bad until it turned absolutely cold. Then I wanted to go back to lukewarm. Now it's over, and I am back in bed under the covers and clean. It was worth it.

In the evening, the podiatrist stopped by to trim my toenails. Only a nurse is allowed to trim toenails, so when they wanted to know if I wanted to have the doctor see me to trim mine, I emphatically said yes! This was perfect timing as I had just found out that the big toe on my right foot was red and hurt. When the nurse first pulled the sock off, she asked me why I had not said anything before. I have learned that half the things I feel are imaginary, and I had mentioned it to my CNA the night before. Turns out, it is infected, so she wrote a prescription for an antibiotic, and she will check it in a week. Problem solved! Or at least treated.

Saturday, 2/24

So much for writing a little bit every day. Well, I still need to get in the habit. Another high school classmate is going to stop by today with some dim sum. Yummy! I am having a heck of a time writing or answering texts. Please know that 90% of the time I am in my bed in my room. I do go out, but it is sometimes more trouble than it's worth, so I mostly stay in bed. Anyone is more than welcome to stop by at any time.

D brought me a nice big helping of green vegetables and skinny rice noodles. She also brought me a cute little stuffed animal. I thought it was a gopher at first, but then I saw the antlers. It is supposed to be a fawn, but the manufacturer took major creative license with the design of this animal. Gone are the long, spindly legs she should be trying to balance on. Instead, she has to deal with cute but useless stubs that don't even reach the ground. Thank God this animal is not real, so I don't have to witness her trying to drag herself around on her stomach. At least she would be close to the grass she eats. I just gave myself a good laugh.

My stepbrother and his wife stopped by later that day. They usually bring me Thai food, but I told them I already had some outside food. They drop by a couple of times a month. How wonderful! I recommended a couple of shows on Netflix that I enjoyed. “The Tourist” and “Boy Swallows Universe”. They are both Australian shows with not an excessive amount of violence onscreen. I have had an account with Netflix since 2004, and they have gotten to know my tastes pretty well. That's because I rate the shows I like or don't.

Sunday, 2/25

My sister made her weekly visit this afternoon. She! goes to Whole Foods and brings me something from their prepared food counter. I really enjoy the dense, nutritional meals I get there. I especially love the raw kale salads, although whoever made today's kale salad isn't familiar with the vegetable. They just tore the leaves off and added some dressing. No, no, no! Raw kale must be massaged for a couple of minutes to make it easily edible. It doesn't take long. I think I will call the grocery store tomorrow and let them know.

I made a list of eight things for her to help me with. She got six done. Pretty dang good! We usually watch something together, but she was too productive today. We had just finished the second season of “Fisk”. Another Australian show, but this time a pretty hilarious sitcom about a small law office. See you next week!
