“The Day Of The Jackal“ - 7/8-14/24

Monday, July 8th

We of course watched the 1973 original of the best selling book that mom had read when it came out in the 70s and couldn't put down. I had had my supra pubic catheter changed just that morning and it was not draining properly. I had drunk a lot of water, probably a liter and there was hardly anything in my bag. I had peed a great deal into my diaper, and I knew something wasn't right, so the movie was interrupted by the nurse deflating the ball that holds my catheter in place. That helped a lot. I know the original book was riveting but I did not find the movie to be on the same level. Oh well, we will try again next week. Humphrey was fabulous as usual.

Tuesday, July 9th

J, my masseuse, was OK but her husband had come down with COVID, so it will be yet another week until we see each other again. Rats! I settled down for a day of watching Survivor which I was catching up on after missing it for a year.

Wednesday, July 10th

I had heard one of the staff talking to my neighbor about the resident council meeting, which I had not been to for a while. I told my CNA that I wanted to be up and in my chair by 10:30 a.m. because I thought the meeting was today. She gave me an early shower and put me in my chair early, and then I found out I had the day wrong. Well, I wanted to be up anyway so I just watched more Survivor.

Thursday, July 11th

Mom came to visit me for dinner and she surprised me with McDonald's! What a nice surprise! She had gotten a six-piece chicken nuggets, but because she was not familiar with buying fast food, she didn't realize it came with a sauce. Luckily, I always have an abundance of ranch dressing with my evening salad, so no problem. She knew I liked honey mustard so she will get that for me next time. I only eat McDonald’s two or three times a year, which is about the right frequency to enjoy it when you do eat it. I'm good for another four or five months now.

Friday, July 12th

I have let myself relax into watching Survivor. I finally got to a new season, but now I want to know how this season ends! And so the cycle continues…

Saturday, July 13th

My sister is on the Big Island with my cousin's son who just graduated from high school. She had a weekend stay at a cabin, and made it her graduation present. So no Humphrey visits today. I don't feel a big drive to do much of anything. I'm not feeling down, just not feeling much of anything.

Sunday, July 14th

My CNA came to me, and I wondered why she was here. Then I remembered, it's shower day! I have to make an addendum to my private parts essay, as getting a shower is just not a fun experience anymore. Mom brought over some eggplant parmesan that she had cooked the day before. It was good, but I am not a fan of eggplant. Better than a hospital dinner! I was in a bad mood so she got on my nerves a little, but I tried to be nice. I don't know if I succeeded. I had a very hard time writing an email but I finally finished it, so back to Survivor! Have a great week!
