“The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert” - 7/15-21/24

Monday, July 15th

I saw this movie when it came out in 1994 and I was hoping it would not be too dated. I also did not realize at the time that two of its three stars were Guy Pierce and Hugo Weaving, along with Terrence Stamp. It was a delightful movie, not dated at all, and in fact quite progressive in its attitude. I especially enjoyed the way Hugo Weaving‘s son was so matter-of-fact about his dad being a drag queen. It was also interesting to see drag queens looking very homemade as opposed to the glamour queens that they are in shows like We’re Here. Not that I don't love that show, but that's not how the average person would look.

I also really loved how Humphrey has been with me lately. Mom is very optimistic about his lifespan, but I can see how much he just wants to hang out with me all day, every day. My heart aches for that to happen and I have settled into the routine I am in because it just seems too difficult to find a place to live all by myself. I need to find someone who can bring him to me another day of the week.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday - July 16th, 17th, 18th

I'm writing this on Sunday because I have been especially bad and not written anything during the week. I have no memory of anything happening during the middle of this week. Sorry!

Friday, July 19th

My good friend from Maui, who I had seen once a week for years but had not seen at all for the last three years, was visiting Honolulu for work and was staying over in order to see me tomorrow! I made sure Humphrey would be here, as they were very good friends. She asked if she could bring me anything and I told her I would love to have some spring rolls from a good Thai restaurant. She originally moved to Maui from New Hampshire and whenever she went back east, I always asked her to bring me some salt water taffy. Good stuff! She wouldn't be bringing that tomorrow but spring rolls were good too.

Saturday, July 20th

My friend showed up a little after 11 and Humphrey showed up soon after. My friend who brought Humphrey had lived back east for a few years with his ex-wife and they talked about that for a bit. Humphrey got some good rubbin’ while they talked and he was loving seeing his old friend. She brought me some great spring rolls, which I ate for lunch. Mom came at 1:30 Tuesday say hi and then a couple hours later she left to go to the airport. Then two of my stepbrothers and their wives came to say hi and bring me shrimp pad Thai. Yum! Overrun by Thai food! It turns out, none of them had actually met Humphrey; they only had heard about him so it was great they could see him in the flesh. Everyone was appropriately impressed by how well-behaved he was. Yep, he's a smarty!

Sunday, July 21st

I wish I could enjoy a shower, but it's just not that fun, especially when the water alternates hot and cold every 10 seconds. At least I am clean. I have been thinking of what to write for my next essay, but I have not put anything down on paper yet. I will tomorrow, as I like my Tuesday masseuse to help me refine ideas. My sister showed me the photos of her trip to the Big Island with my cousin’s son. I know they had a great time, but the Big Island is not very photogenic, or at least not the parts they took photos of. It's the youngest island I believe, and it has not had time to get lush and tropical. And it's busy creating new land, so enjoy the lava; it's not green yet.

The photo at the beginning of today's blog is me, my friend and Humphrey, who had to get in on the action! Perfect! I don't like how my neck looks! Look at Humphrey, please.
