Mom likes Michael Keaton and I wanted to see the original before the new movie came out so we watched the 1985, early Tim Burton classic. I owned this movie on VHS and have seen it many times but it never gets old! M was sick with COVID, so he couldn't come, and mom wanted to have time with me, so she got a portable dolly so she could bring up Humphrey’s carrier by herself. Mom brought Humphrey at noon, and then A came at 2:30 PM and then brought H home a little later. Even just a little bit longer visit was nice.

I had been told that haircuts would be at the end of the month and I said I wanted to get one. The activity person showed up at my bed this morning and asked if I was going to get up for the haircut. He said it like I should have known it was today, even though no one had told me. I didn't know it was today, I said. So I got up and went downstairs and had a quick, 15 minute haircut. And then I went back up to my room just in time to meet J for a massage. Perfect! She took my picture and that is my photo for this week‘s blog.
Wednesday, August 28th
E brought Humphrey early, at 1030 a.m. and had time to do some chores for me before A showed up. I had been reading my essays to her, which was a nice way to strengthen my voice. It was really interesting to read them all again and I was surprised how much I liked them. I certainly am no Shakespeare, but not bad for an amateur. I really, really love a nice long Humphrey visit. I know the next thing I will tape about him is what he does when the carrier shows up. It's very sweet!
Thursday, August 29th
My therapist sent me a text during breakfast saying she was told there was Covid on my floor and she couldn't come today. That was news to my CNA. I wanted to get up, but if there was a Covid outbreak, I wouldn't be allowed out of the room, so I stayed in bed. I kept thinking about how it was almost a new month and I didn't have a new essay written. Oh well, I thought to myself, something will come to me.
Friday, August 30th
Last night I had fallen asleep and woke up at 1:30 a.m. for no good reason. Unfortunately, I could not go back to sleep so I was awake and felt the mattress sinking beneath me. The mattress controller had been beeping at me for weeks so I figured the mattress was dying. I had called the DME supplier I work with (durable medical equipment, for those not familiar with healthcare abbreviations (I know all the cool lingo)) and tried to rent the mattress, but they didn't have one, so I am lying on a plain old foam mattress. Ugh.
Saturday, August 31st
Since I didn't sleep much the night before, I slept well last night. Today was my first full day on this crappy mattress and I learned how hot it is. I didn't quite realize it until the end of the day. When I am hot, I am weak and I could barely move my left arm. Before then, my sister had gone to the grocery store and gotten some important snack supplies. She only had time to bring them to me and make a bunch of snack bags before she was gone again to fly to Maui tomorrow for a trial. The nice thing is, the whole mattress ordeal gave me a great idea for the essay I need to write.
Thanks to my mattress ordeal, I realized I had my essay topic, especially when I came up with what I thought was a brilliant title. I won't spoil the fun here. It will be posted almost the same day this comes out. At most, one day later. I quickly wrote about five paragraphs and read it to my sister when she came. When I know what I want to write, it comes out quickly. Just a couple days late, as usual.
Sunday, September 1st
Mom came by and gave me lunch. She could only stay an hour and a half and we had a nice visit. I wrote more on the essay and I hope I will finish it tomorrow. I don't even remember what else happened today as I am late submitting this blog and want to be done and get this in. So that's it! Have a great week!
