SNL skits on YouTube - 9/2-8/24

Monday, September 2nd

Mom, in an effort to help get Humphrey home earlier, is going to come with M at noon instead of 1 PM and that schedule started today. They are then showing up before I eat lunch. The lunch tray showed up just after they came, so mom fed me while M gave Humphrey treats to distract him. Then they both ate lunch so we were a bit thrown off on our timing to watch a movie so we settled on short skits on YouTube. I started with the classic More Cowbell with Will Ferrell and Christopher Walken. We then moved on to some Jeopardy sketches with Will Ferrell and various people. I laughed so hard I cried.

Humphrey was pretty lively and enjoyed being distracted. We also gave him a small cup of water, which he drank down quickly. We got a video of it and I will post that later. The cup is the dosage cup they use to administer pills and I save them and use them to measure the apple cider vinegar I add to my water. It only holds two tablespoons but I get a kick out of watching Humphrey drink from such a dainty cup.

I forgot this was also the first time H visited me after the mattress collapse and without the comforter. I had a fleece blanket on me, which was nice and soft, but I still wasn't sure how he would react. So I taped that, but it was a complete non-reaction, so I will have to examine the tape to see if there is anything worth posting.

Tuesday, September 3rd

J will be going to the mainland to visit a friend of hers until at least the end of October. As I write this, I realize I have not told mom this so she can find a replacement. She has been looking, but she doesn't know I only have one more week with J before she leaves. I will miss her.

Wednesday, September 4th

A had to cancel today because she did not feel well on Monday. Boo-hoo! I forgot to mention on Monday that I had been helping her study for her realtor’s test. It was a lot of very dry facts and numbers she had to memorize, so I immediately told her the pneumonics I was familiar with. She was delighted to have a more fun way to remember things. For those who need it, the trick is to create a picture with a noun and a verb and make it outrageous. Check out Moonwalking with Einstein for more details.

Thursday, September 5th

For reasons I won't go into here, I didn't get up so I had my therapy session in bed today. I don't remember what we talked about, and what business is it of yours anyway? I was just thinking that if I talked about what I discussed, it was OK, but if you're gonna be nosy about it, forget it. I wouldn't tell you even if I did remember. So there.

That evening, I mentioned to my nurse how hot it was in the room. She checked on something near the floor and then told me the oxygen machine my neighbor had spit out warm air which had been pointed directly to my room. She moved it so it did not spew warm air at me and the thermometer went down and the room felt a little better. It only went from 76° to 75° but I'm not lying in a really warm air pocket anymore.

Friday, September 6th

I had been working so hard to finish the blog and the essay during the first part of the week. I really felt I had earned a day doing nothing, so that's what today was. Actually, what I did was call Gammie, my equipment supplier, to see if they repaired low-air-loss mattresses. What I had realized was that insurance would not be paying for a new mattress because I would technically not qualify for it. For insurance to pay for it, I needed to have open, active pressure sores, and no one wanted it to get that far. Brand new, the mattress would cost $8000 from Gammie! This included 24 hour on-call repair service for the first year. Used mattresses cost $1000 or less, so we would be going that route. More on that later.

Saturday, September 7th

Since my sister was on Maui, A brought H to me at 9:30 a.m., and Mom showed up at 11:30 a.m. to relieve her. I had never had Humphrey show up that early and it would have been fine except for the fact that I had had a suppository early in the morning. Sometimes, my body says, ‘I'm not done yet’ and that's what happened at 10:45. So H had to be back in the carrier temporarily, which was not great. Not how I want a visit to go. The worst part was he was not feeling well and just wanted to be near me. There were times when he had to stand because he did not feel comfortable sitting down. Not good.

Sunday, September 8th

I had a short check-in with mom and I forgot to ask about Humphrey. I hope he is doing better than Saturday. I really hope the bad feeling I had when he was diagnosed with kidney disease was just that, a feeling.

I meant to get the blog written earlier in the day, but I made the mistake of opening Netflix, and got caught up watching a new series called The Perfect Couple. It stars Nicole Kidman and Liev Schreiber, two actors I can't resist. I watched four episodes before I tore myself away. Then I listened to a review on Pop Culture Happy Hour and was pleased to hear that they also thought it was a frothy good time. My photo this week is one A took when Humphrey was lying next to me on Monday. Have a great week!
