“Anchorman” - 9/23-29/24

Monday, September 23rd

I really wanted to see this Will Ferrell classic again, as I had not seen it since it came out. For me, my favorite part is when the five groups of newsmen get together for a rumble and Tim Robbins is the PBS anchor. I worked with Tim Robbins theater company in LA for years, so that is a kick for me. It's a little annoying that Apple cannot connect more than one headphone at a time because my Samsung tablet can. I have multiple headphones connected to my iPad but only one will hear the audio while I watch a movie. Unfortunately, no one, not even me, wants to watch anything on anything less than my iPad pro now. It's just hard to hear the movie over all my background noises. Oh well.

Tuesday, September 24th

Since J is out of town until at least November, Mom brought a new masseuse to meet me this afternoon. She seems very nice. She is more expensive than J, but anyone would be since I was getting a great deal from her. I thought we could skip one week and that would make the budget close to what it is usually. Mom wasn't used to me talking money, and it wasn't the time with the person right there. I really let Mom and Pam completely take over control of the money since that's what I have to do now that I am on Medicaid. It can be a little bit more collaborative though.

Wednesday, September 25th

I was going about my business and then all of a sudden, boom! Father C showed up! I haven't seen him since the beginning of the year! Various things had prevented us from getting together, but when he heard about Humphrey, he made it a priority to stop by. It was really great to see him. He mentioned Mom told him that I had a premonition about Humphrey. That is not how I would put it, but I guess that's what it was. Premonition sounds more like something you're not sure is going to happen, and for me, this was a knowing. There was no question about it. I didn't want it to happen, but I wasn't surprised when it did. It was the same with the feeling of calm I have now when I think of him.

Thursday, September 26th

My therapist came, and I had to give her the news about Humphrey. I had not seen her last week, and the week before Humphrey was only dealing with the kidney disease, which seemed to be going fine. And all of a sudden he's gone. It did happen very quickly. Anyway, I showed her all the photos and then she told me about the group of ladies she worked with who rescue kitties when they need help. A mama cat had dropped off one of her kittens in the yard of one of these ladies. You've got to be a good person if a pregnant cat knows you will take care of one of her litter. So they are bottle feeding a brand new kitten that came to them on Wednesday, the 18th. I don't want to make too big a deal out of it, but I also don't want to ignore that serendipity either.

I started crying a little since I had thought that it would be hard to find a kitty when I rarely get out of bed. Foolish mortal! I had thought I definitely didn't want a kitten because that would be too much work! Ha ha! The universe laughs at the way we think we have it all worked out. My sister had been thinking of just this situation, and had been wanting to change her cat arrangements. This could work out. Or it might not. But somehow, in the end, I would end up with a cat. Yippee!

Friday, September 27th

I had put a claim in with my insurance to get a new low-air-loss mattress to replace the one that deflated. In order to qualify for the mattress, I needed to have active, open pressure sores. As mom and my nurses did not want that to happen, Mom proactively went ahead and ordered a new mattress, which got here earlier than we expected. So I got up in my chair in order that the old mattress could be cleared so the new mattress could be installed! We are still waiting to get the denial letter from insurance about our original claim.

I had A come as I needed her to video the instructions to use the mattress. I could still work with Mom so she understood how to take pictures and videos, but I did not want to put that pressure on her to get it right for me. I hadn't told her that A was coming, but Mom was happy to see her, and immediately decided to use her to help with doctor visits. Since A‘s intention is to be a realtor, she should have a fairly flexible schedule, and she enjoys working with me! Ditto! I expect to try different settings with my sister tomorrow.

Saturday, September 28th

I gave myself a craving for sushi from Whole Foods, so my sister stopped by on her way to me. What I did not realize was that she was getting proactive in her snack purchases, and she showed up with four new bags of snacks. I wasn't even halfway through eating the snack bags she had made a month ago! Obviously, I need to redouble my extra curricular eating efforts. I have maintained a nice low bodyweight, so I don't need to worry about that. Go ahead! Live a little! Have some munchies!

She also helped me quickly go through all the pictures of Humphrey I have so I can create a nice photo essay tribute for next month’s essay. I really like to leave it for last minute, don't I? It went fast as I picked all the pictures I have used for screen backgrounds on my phone, tablets or computer. Looking at pictures of him do not make me sad; they make me smile thinking about all the wonderful times I had with him. I'm glad I can say that I really appreciated the time I had while it was happening and not just in hindsight.

Sunday, September 29th

Mom stopped by after church and fed me lunch. She also brought me the other remembrances that Arms of Aloha had returned with his ashes. The paw print was lovely and they had also clipped a little bit of his fur and put it in a pouch. That immediately made the tears flow. Pictures were just a representation, but this was him! I will attach it to the photo of him I have. That will be nice. The rest of the day was writing the blog and doing a lot of doing nothing.

The cover photo is the picture of Humphrey with the remembrances attached. I love the paw impression with the impressions from his claws. And the pouch with his fur. Wonderful!
