Now we're getting into film buff territory as we watched 2/3 of Akira Kurosawa’s modern masterpiece, High and Low from 1965. It was very interesting, but unfortunately for any movie I see after lunch, there is a danger of me drifting off to slumberland as I am lying in bed as I watch. What made it even more difficult to stay awake was the fact that the movie was in black-and-white and the subtitles were white and sometimes very difficult to read. I also cannot read them quickly, as my eyes don't work that fast anymore, so I could only catch about 1/3 of what they said. I will have to watch the movie again and pause every time subtitles change so I can catch all the dialogue. That's a rather arduous way to experience a movie, so I was using this time to get the gist of things. Anyway, it's a good movie.

I'm sure I should have, but I just didn't feel like getting up so I had my massage in bed again. I'm not going about the new kitten the correct way, as I have immediately fallen for him specifically. My therapist is not helping, as she sees the stars aligning so that this is my cat. So much for ‘don't get caught up in specifics’. I connected with him strongly at first and I have been easing off and not trying to talk with him for at least a week. Of course, I can't keep my big trap shut about it and the masseuse asked about the kitty. What can I say? I hope he will be my cat. It kills me this is such a big deal, which it is but it's such an essential thing. Why does it need to be so hard?

My CNA finally mentioned that they are working on the pipes in some bathrooms so there are fewer working gurney showers. It has always been the case that the water is only solidly warm or hot for a short while at the beginning and then it fluctuates between hot and almost completely cold. Fun stuff! It's not too bad, as you don't need to wait very long before it gets warm again. Not for the last week or two! Now, once the temperature begins fluctuating, it is cooler much longer than it is warm. The shower was already something to be endured, but this is ridiculous! It is still better than not taking a shower. That's what I tell myself. They are transferring me onto the gurney.

I had my weekly therapy session and told her that my sister was going to have to find a new home for her bullying cat before she could take on a new cat. She has been looking for two years so it would be a while before anything happened. My therapist said it was not a problem for the foster moms to continue to take care of him. He is so sweet-tempered and fun to be around. I felt certain that, given enough time, a resolution would be found. I was glad that time could be extended and I could keep him on hold.
Meanwhile, I had realized that while my mom needed time between my cats, I did not. As it was not appropriate for me to pin all my hopes on one kitten, I could see him as an example of what I wanted. I think that might be a bit of a farce. I can really see how I can mold him into what I want. Or at least work with him to be the cat I need. I need to talk to my friend who communicates with animal so I can get some finer points on how to do it. I really think this could be a way that I can keep in contact with my cat while not seeing him frequently. We'll see how it goes.

Today is the day my hospital decided to have voting happen. It's really nice that they made such an effort to create private voting areas for us. There were a couple areas and I went in with a helper who talked through the ballot and marked down my choices. Great! Then, as a reward for coming downstairs, they gave us an all-American lunch, hotdogs, corn, potato salad, and chili. For dessert, there was apple pie à la mode, Boston Cream pie and a root beer float. I had some of all three. The float was the size of a regular plastic cup, so not very big but enough to get the taste of it. All in all, it was a fun way to spend lunch! And I did my civic duty.

My sister had a friend’s birthday party to go to so mom got me some food at Whole Foods and gave me lunch. She usually comes on Sunday, but she came today to spread out visits from people. We got along well and had a nice chat. I love it when that happens!

My sister came today and brought sushi from WF. She had talked about sharing one order and I wrote back that I was hungry and breakfast had been smaller than normal so get two orders. She brought back three orders, but the third was just cucumber and avocado, so not big. We managed to finish all but two pieces and it was so yummy! I just love that, and I am so glad I live somewhere that has good supermarket sushi. Everyone, please have a great week and go vote!
