“The Wild One” - ⅔-9/25

M had talked up this 1954 Marlon Brando biker movie with Mom so we looked it up on Prime and started watching. The rowdy hoodlum biker gang made fun of the squares and caused trouble where they went. When they drove into a town and took over the bar, they quickly became a problem and out came the vigilante justice. Then it became an interesting sociological study with the townspeople becoming as ugly and unruly as the bikers had been before.

Brando definitely stood out as the most believable actor in the bunch. Interestingly, he did not appear as fit as the rest of them. I suspect he stopped caring about losing weight and the camera added a few pounds on him that you couldn't see on anyone else. That's just my guess. Anyway, you definitely see the beginnings of the great ACTOR he would become.

Tuesday, February 4th

R came at 2 p.m. and I told her I wanted to do the massage once a month. She was completely fine with that so she will come on the first Tuesday of every month. Last year was the ‘do anything you want, I've got the money to pay for it’ attitude. This year there has definitely been some belt tightening. We are swinging all the way in the other direction. And we will see where Medicaid is once Trump's rampages calm down and the dust settles a bit. Scary.

I love it when I come up with a great title for an essay. I came up with this month’s essay title and I knew I could write a lot on it. And then the second half of the essay became a lot of complaining. I actually posted it with two different photographs. Then I thought about it and knew I had to rewrite the second half. I had lost the thread about expectations. I also went back and found a photograph just before I left Maui and used the picture I had said no one would ever see. Now there was a dramatic difference. I wrote the changes today and posted them on Thursday.

I didn't connect with Freddie when I tried but it also felt a bit rushed. I think I need to be more regular about talking to him. I don't like forcing myself on a cat. But of course I got my first two cats when they were two months old so they had no choice about bonding with me. And Humphrey most decidedly picked me, which has now spoiled me for that kind of deep connection with my buddy. Freddie is not my cat and I feel that acutely. I still very much enjoy having him visit.

I knew I would see my sister tomorrow so I was good and worked on the budget for a bit. I am doing this work in Google Sheets, which is very much like Microsoft Excel. The projected budget was finished and that will not change, but what I did was create a new budget sheet where I will fill in the actual cost of the expenses. And then, because I was good at understanding how to set up a database or write formulas in a spreadsheet, I created a new sheet for each month. Then, because every sheet is exactly the same, I created one last sheet where I will total all 12 sheets under it.

Was that a thing I needed to blog about? No, but it irks me to no end to see someone being sloppy about a spreadsheet when there is an obvious cleaner fix. I LOVED setting up a simple, clear spreadsheet that worked. If I'm doing a budget for myself, you bet your ass I'm going to set it up gorgeously. I added notes to every cell with a number in it that explains what that number is for. Let me know if you want the blank version of my spreadsheet so you can change it for yourself. Seriously, I'm not greedy.

Saturday, February 8th

Since I had not gotten food last week, my sister brought me sushi this week. So good! I showed her the budget I had started to fill in, and she immediately started making changes. She also created blank sheets that she labeled with each month. (That's a sister's dynamic for you! Annoying and helpful at the same time.) I thought about it and patted myself on the back for being able to be creative with the essays, and practical with the spreadsheets at the same time. Good for me!

I had her read my latest essay and she said that it hurts her to read my comments about her not letting me spend money on the supplements. Then let me spend the money and I won't have to write that, I thought. That's part of the point about why I include that, to make it seem so unfair. I'm sorry she gets hurt, but that's what happens when your sister blogs to the world. Sorry!

Sunday, February 9th

Mom came by after church and we played the first session we recorded with the Feldenkrais lady. I have to admit, there definitely is a visible improvement after we do the exercises. Unfortunately, I need someone else with me to do them. I can't wait until I can add the supplements and be able to do some of the exercises by myself. That's my prediction. My sister told my mom not to talk to me about the supplements, which is good because I could wear Mom down. My sister is too busy to read my blog which I think is ridiculous. You should absolutely read something that gives you an unfiltered view of your sister. But oh well.

The cover photo is me in my new The Ren and Stimpy Show T-shirt. This was an animated TV show in the 90s, and it was very crude, outrageous, and funny. I should find and rewatch it. Enjoy your week!
