M was interested in watching movies about our dystopian future, and Mom had never seen this 1973 classic starring a young Charlton Heston. They do a good job of creating a world that is too crowded. I laughed when I found out the movie was set in 2022. It's the dystopian future of two years ago. I had a lot of fun at the end hearing Chuck scream, “Soylent Green is people!” Whoops! That is a spoiler. Sorry, but you did have 51 years to see or hear about this movie before now. If I'm the one who spoiled that for you, I apologize. There is an overabundance of content to watch, so deal with it.
Mom and M also helped me put up two small pictures we had recently rescued from storage. One was a small line drawing of a cat on its back that an artist friend of my mom had done on Maui. The other was my personally signed picture of Stephen Colbert that my sister had gotten for me 14 or so years ago. On a recent show, Stephen had said he and his wife would answer questions from people. I am working with my sister to come up with a question to ask. I also plan on asking for an updated photo and signature. We shall see.

My masseuse texted me that she had a cold and runny nose and did not want to visit in that condition. I agreed and told her I would see her next week. I am enjoying this week in bed after getting up the last two weeks, and I will get up twice next week. Yikes! You’d think I was a regular, able-bodied person at this rate. Ha ha.

After my shower, I got up from my chair to attend the bimonthly resident council meeting. Before the meeting, I went to the dining room at the end of the hall, the one with the great view of the city, and had cocoa and a piece of cake. I really should not eat regular, gluten-filled cake, but I have a huge sweet tooth, and it was maple nut bar cake, and I just couldn't say no. It wasn't a big piece, and there were lots of thin layers with yummy fillings in between. There was less cake, so less gluten, right? That's what I'm telling myself…
The meeting was fine. There were eight of us there, which was a crowd. That gives you an idea about how many clear-thinking residents there are out of the three floors of people living here. They were telling us the results of a survey they had done that seven people had answered. One person asked why there weren't more people surveyed and I wanted to scream, “Because there aren't more people who think clearly.” Needless to say, I did not say anything. Argh. And you wonder why I prefer lying in bed.

My therapist was still out of the country, but thinking of her made me think of Potential New Kitty. Now I am thinking that perhaps a kitten would be too rambunctious for my sister’s cat. Maybe it would be better to get an older cat who would be mellow and want to just lie next to me. That sounds pretty good too. I have a shirt that I have saved without washing it, so it has my scent all over it. I imagine my sister could bring the shirt to a potential cat and see how they react to it. The cat that likes that shirt would like me. If it was good enough for Humphrey, that's good enough for me.

I have been dragging my feet about writing an essay for next month. I know what I want to write about, but it’s just like pulling teeth to get me to sit down and start writing it. I started at one point, but then I realized it was actually the start of a different essay I want to write. After I finish writing my blog, I will start the essay again. Giving myself the deadline of the beginning of the month is good. It forces me to write something every month.

My sister came over at noon with Whole Foods sushi. So good! I really do love eating that. She helped me pick out my outfits for Thanksgiving and my birthday next week. I found a dress I had forgotten about, so that will be fun to wear. She helped me put up some cards and photos and rearrange things on the wall a little. We went through my shirts and got rid of a few of them. There are some shirts I have that I don't want to wear anymore, but I do want a new shirt in the same color, so I am keeping the shirt for reference. I will put out a call for birthday cards so I have some new cards to put up on the wall.
My sister said she thought her cat would have fun with a kitten, so maybe Potential New Kitty is not completely out of the picture. She wants to find someone who can take her older cat, but she can still visit him. Of course, she wants to still have her cat in her life, just not in her apartment. If you know of anyone looking for a cat, let me know.
At 3:30 p.m., my stepbrother and his wife showed up with chicken pad thai. They had fun seeing my sister and she, them. Then my sister left to get ready for a Friendsgiving she was going to that night. I hung out with them for a bit. My stepbrother follows my blog and complimented me on my writing. Finally! Someone besides my mom sees my brilliance. And my overwhelming modesty, I always like to add.

My helper this morning was a lady who doesn't know my routine, but she is very open to me telling her exactly what I need her to do. I have to remind myself to be patient with her and not get instantly irritated about everything. I was largely patient, and that helps a lot. She likes to do double shifts on the weekend. She's getting more used to my routine and me, and we are working well together. That's good.
I love having a subscription to the Criterion Collection. I admit it, I am a film snob. I like watching good movies, and I will sit through an art film or a foreign film so I can experience the movie. The first real boyfriend I had when I was 25 was a former film student, so I learned some of the finer points early on. I watched two classic film noirs for their gay undertones as people had to work around the restrictive film codes. Fascinating!
My new wall is the cover image. I will have to do a sequence so you can see the cards and things slowly spreading across its entire surface. I'm not done yet, but I'm getting close! I took the picture myself because I forgot to have my sister take it yesterday, so it is a little off.
Have a great week!
